    7th December 2008; i was able to win over my friend who insisted to watch Di-Kopi-O's Body of Lies. Not that I doubt BoL's credibility, it's just that I prefer something unrealistic but awesome with lots of actions and cool characters (think of WANTED), instead of a somewhat regular USA military/police story.. I might try watching BoL soon, btw..

    Okay, what should i say.. I'm fairly impressed and amused with this movie. It successfully delivered almost everything that i want; a uber-cool GAR non-typical protagonist, impressively coreographed martial arts and actions, 1 hour and 40 minutes of pure enjoyment, awesome quotes, awesome villain, fresh humours, and the fact that this movie doesn't deceive with interesting Trailers but ended up you giving something unexpectedly disappointing ie. Hancock, Twilight, The Happening... Another note; this the first Transporter trilogies i ever watched. Good thing that this movie didn't left me clueless troughout the whole 1:40hrs..

    My Ratings:

    Characters: :star::star::star::star::star-half:
    The characters, especially Frank, Inspector Tarconi and little bad-guy Johnson @ Robert Kepper, are fairly interesting. I love Frank's attitude of staying cool and clever all the time. Him having multiple principles of doing his job but still ocassinaly break them due to certain excuses is one of the lots of things why he's awesome. Other than the COOL factors and amazing actions, the quotes and lines coming from the characters' mouths are like music to the ears. My favourites are "I give you 10 seconds to answer- I give you 5 seconds to move your hand away." and "I won't die after travelling halfway through Europe." However, the lack (or inexistence) of character development is one of the two things that caused this movie unable to score a perfect 5stars rating in my review. The second reason is... just check the "Cons" section. However, well, i'm a big sucker of cool bad-ass protagonists so it's obvious for me to overrate this one.

    Storyline:
    :star::star::star::star-half::star-empty:
    Of course, i really enjoy watching this movie a lot, the storyline is indeed interesting and fun to watch but, i have to admit that the actions, comedy, etc weren't really that strong enough to support the storyline/plot which was quite weak due to the missing of twist and, again i say, character developtment..

    Graphic/Atmosphere:
    :star::star::star::star::star-empty:
    Not much for me to say on this one... But i do like the settings in this movie.

    Sounds/Music:
    :star::star::star::star::star-empty:
    Too lazy to rate this one too.. As usual, the typical "Dun, Dun--, Dun, Dun, Dun!" music track in almost every action movie I watched never gets old imo. I kinda like the random insert songs during certain scenes..., except for that "bedtime lullaby" rap <s>song</s> played in that part when Frank stopped by at the Gas station.

    Enjoyment: :star::star::star::star::star:
    Definitely enjoy almost each and every moment. It has almost everything that i want (yea, i'm saying these again); cool characters, actions, humours..., oh yea! Another awesome thing about Frank (and friends) is he randomly cracked jokes while still retaining that awesomely cool look on his face. Despite it not having any twists to shock me in the middle/end of the story and make it a lot more interesting, this movie was still able to make my eyelids failed to blink.

    Ending: :star::star::star::star::star-half:
    No twists (yea, i already said that) but i'm biased to give this a 4 and half stars, simply because i love how Frank beat the crap of the bad-man and his strategy and tricks to make his loss a living hell... (<---SPOILERS: pun seriously intended.) Still, it could be altered if only... read the "Cons" section..

    The Cons:
  • -There's a b!tch in this movie.

  • -That b!tch is annoying.

  • -That b!tch is an annoying slut.

  • -Kinda doubt if it's logical to pump up a water proof pack and turn a car into a hovercraft by just using the air from the tires..

  • -Valentina is a b!tch.

  • -Odd how the movie poster featured Frank holding two handguns but in fact he didn't even used them in the movie..

  • -Valentina is an annoying slutty b!tch.

  • -Frank and Ins. Tarconi should have drowned Valentina in the pool where they usually fish.. Now that's a 5 stars ending!

    Since i've just applied a new subscription, maybe it won't really be a bad idea for a bastard like me to update this old Journal..

    Okay,end of my rant. This afternoon,i intended to watch "Don't Mess With The Zohan" after my class but i found out that i'm 0 minutes late right after the movie started (and i haven't purchased a ticket yet) and i somehow remembered that my sis gave two thumbs up on that latest Malay horror film, entitled "Susuk".. And i have to say..., if i ever said that "The Orphanage" is the best horror film and "Wanted" has the best plot twist ever (that i've watched in this year)...., i'll take those back! Susuk was far awesome than i've expected, despite it was a Malay film which most people in my country still tend to underrate..

    One thing i really love about this film is that it's sooooo open-minded and the way how it tells you the Moral value in a non-straight way. For those who don't live or know anything about the local films in Malaysia; most of our movie developers tend to filter lots of "matured" and "offensive" stuffs in their works. Well,unlike most of those typical movies, Susuk is one of the few movies that don't mind doing those stuffs. Couple getting decapitated, idol getting her guts pulled out,couple kissing in the elevator (yea,even this stuff is banned in Malaysia), cannibalism, black magic ritual, prostitute getting skinned, "swimming" session (lol) and yea! Lesbian woman teasing by striping her bra off to show how hot she was to the heroine. Seriously,the guys who did this movie aren't even embarrassed on showing this, since they are the REALITY. Still,i have no idea why they rated this as General,not that it's a bad thing to me anyway..^^ Btw,although the violence and bloody scenes were nicely done,please don't over-expecting it to be anything as gory as Long Kong,though..

    I'm not going to explain that much since i don't want to spoil anything but i recommend to all my fellow Malaysians,GO AND WATCH THIS MOVIE,IT'S DAMN PHENOMENALLY AWESOME!!!

    My Ratings:

    Characters: :star::star::star::star::star-empty:
    I simply love almost each and every of the characters. Not just that the acting were great and natural (unlike those overreacting overrated Movie Stars), most of them are really interesting especially how they differentiate the heroine with the sinister villain. At first,the heroine was nothing but just your typical innocent horror film girl but right in the middle of the story, her character started to develop and changed after she decided to pursue her dream as a diva.., and after she knew about the enchanted "Susuk". The villain in the other hand was really awesomely sinister and her actions are pretty unpredictable. (GOOD JOB! Ida Nerina!) Another one of my favourite is BOMOH DEWANGGA!! From his alter-ego as the Simon Cowell of Akademi Fantasia to the cold hearted sorcerer that only think nothing but just his ambition of finding his "Immortal Queen". I don't know what other bloggers were talking about,but i seriously also love the Side characters especially the heroine's best friend;i really like the way she acted cute and hyperactive throughout the film in a spontaneous and natural way like the part where she was bouncing on the Exercise Ball and nearly slipped down to the floor lol.

    Storyline: :star::star::star::star::star:
    I might sound a little bit bias but i'm going to give it a perfect mark. All because of the genius producer on playing with everyone's mind to think that the whole story just flowed in a linear motion and the fact that they successfully blurred out the line between the present and the past. One thing that makes this movie less typical than the usual ones like most Korean and Japanese horror films is that they don't overused the old boring "Now You See,Now You Don't" screamers. I believe you need to watch this movie the second time if you still don't get the actual plot. Seriously,this is the first time i ever went out the cinema with my mind still thinking about the mysteries in the movie i've just watched.

    Graphic/Atmosphere: :star::star::star::star-half::star-empty:
    Lol,at first when the skinless corpse suddenly popped out from the lake,everyone in the theater LOLed probably because the 'corpse' looked funny instead of freaky.. Not to mention,when i saw the trailer,i was kinda disappointed with the phony looking fire during the ritual scene. Surprisingly,the CGI and special effects (even the fire in that ritual part) were really nice. I love it when they use special effects to changed the background and the area still with the character in front of the screen and the scene continued just like that. Amazingly,despite this is a horror film oriented to traditional mysteries and ancient black magics,the hi-tech CGI didn't destroy the atmosphere like how a bunch of science freaks killed Sadako with Electric current in The Ring II,funky electro sound effect in Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam and 'cacat' cut-&-paste tiger in Waris Jari Hantu.

    Sounds/Music: :star::star::star::star::star-empty:
    I simply love it (although i have to admit that i still suck in judging music and soundtracks). The insert songs were really great along with the traditional music really suits this movie since its a movie that focus (not really that much,actually) to old Malayan culture stuffs.

    Enjoyment: :star::star::star::star-half::star-empty:
    This movie is quite enjoyable to watch. It isn't slow nor even fast in terms of storline pace. The heroine's character progression from a nice timid nurse to a somewhat anti-hero(ine) is one of the interesting things to watch, along with Ida doing gory stuffs on her victims...lol. Want some cool Martial Arts actions? Just watch Dukun Dewangga owning some guys' arses.... JK.

    Ending: :star::star::star::star::star:
    I already said in the Storyline section;the unpredictible plot twist gave audiences confusion and a big shock towards the ending when they revealed what's this story mainly about which is more than a tale of two different women who both possessed the "forbidden needles".

    The Cons:

    I'll say the concert part... It's just visible that they were trying to cut the budget by refusing to show the live crowds watching the two divas on the stage, simply by just repling it with a pre-recorded applause-track...-_-" Hmm..so that means if you want to get a VIP passport,the easiest way is by going to a concert with pre-recorded audiences? And again,is it me or when that Idol was assaulted and killed,they used that same old "Screaming Lady" track again...?

    Some random facts and cameos in this movie,lol

  • Mazidul Ahmad Sidek doing a 999 report on TV nearly in the beginning of the movie!!

  • That guy who went into the elevator with his wife (after the elevator kissing scene) was Lim from the Petronas Commercial; Param's Bicycle. [link]

  • During that part where Rozana invited Soraya into her car,if you look at her boyfriend standing in the rain,there's a long haired guy with a moustache standing behind him... If i'm not mistaken,isn't that supposed to be the Doctor in Zombie Kampung Pisang? [link]

    SOMEONE BEHIND YOU -Movie Review-

    Sun Jun 8, 2008, 9:14 AM
    I'm not sure but i might sound a little bit biased with this movie since i've just read articles about "Mazinger-Z vs Taekwon-V"....

    Well,to be honest i don't give that much hopes on this movie although the synopsis sounds a little promising and less typical which is one of the reason why i picked this instead of The Prom. The theme of this story is kinda original,ppl get fukken crazy and started to use random objects that fortunately placed beside them to kill people that they (slightly) hate. I somehow thought the storyline seemed to be a little similar to Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and the Cool Handsome Mysterious Guy (CHMG) looks a lot like Yagami Light from Death Note,and he also did act like one.. Too bad,i have to say this wasn't as good as To Sir With Love, another Korean horror movie i watched last year,probably because of the overused horror cliches and how repeatable the homicide scenes were that it made a pattern of predictable plots..

    My Ratings:

    Character: 8/10 :star:
    Nothing special about the characters imo. Still i should say the actors made a decent job to play as psychotic people. (Still not as good as awesome as Katsura Kotonoha,of course) It's kinda ridiculous to see almost everyone went GILER just due to unspecific and unnecessary motives but one can at least assume that the "curse" was the reason why they act violent. I actually wanted to rate it with just 6-7 stars but the main reason why i rated it 8 was because of CGMG aka. Yagami Light wannabe. Surely,i really hated him when he admitted that he wasn't there to help the heroine as what i expected and the fact he "killed" the heroine's imouto-chan but his true identity was the reason why he owned the whole movie.

    Storyline: 6/10 :star:
    As what i've said before,the theme was quite original but one thing that horribly killed it was how the plot got really repetitive towards the middle of the movie:the heroine meet a gal/guy,the gal/guy said weird stuffs,the gal/guy grab any random object placed by someone who never watched Happy Tree Friends,the gal/guy tried to kill the heroine,the heroine struggling against the gal/guy,the gal/guy accidentally injured by the heroine..

    In fact,me and my friend spent most of them playing "Guess How S/he Wants To Kill The Heroine" while watching the movie,not bothering how horrofying it was supposed to be..

    Graphic/Atmosphere: 7/10 :star:
    Nothing that much special. Just your regular background of a highschool,a big house "full of weapons",etc.

    Sounds/Music: 7/10 :star:
    Sorry,but i suck in judging soundtracks from a horror movie..

    Ending: 9/10 :star:
    Although the plot was not that good,the ending and the "Revealing" of CGMG were the strongest points why i (kinda) like this movie. CGMG who appears to be a mysterious guy who seemed to be someone who wants to help the heroine revealed himself to be the "Grim Reaper" who send curses to random people and encourage them to kill. The fact that he explain that the heroine was also one of cursed-to-be-psychotic victim was also unpredictable. I still think the idea of having the whole main characters died or more suitable,killed was kinda suck,though.. Luckily,the heroine's best friend escaped without any scratch,lol..

    I like how the "extra" ending went;a student bullied by a guy in tracksuits (i guess that's his PE teacher) and CGMG suddenly approached him and ask "Would you like to kill someone?"

    The Cons:

    Yea,the story ended with the infamous "Everyone Dies" concept and i have to say there's something i'm not satisfied (other than imouto-chan killed by a stupid knife used to peel and cut apples left on the table by a stupid hospital staff). Well,if you think carefully the story ended with the grim reaper and his curse continue to spread around and 5 people died with just one fukken curse. Imagine if the curse continue to spread all over places and after a few decades, S.Korea is going to suffer population problems...T-T Thank God Gail Kim resides in USA,lol...

    I think i need to rest a little bit and try to moderate the number of Horror Movies i watch in cinemas. I barely screamed nor shocked by the screamers i watched in this movie since i already able to (easily) predict what'll happen next ie. the bloody Now You See,Now You Don't creature..

    Oh yea,and trying to kill and get stabbed on the gut with a seemed-to-be-blunt cotton wool "scissors" is kinda amusing,lol..

    I don't know why but CGMG seemed to be a mix of Yagami Light and Enma Ai except that Ai is a cute and sweet loli that i would love to ra....Hug. Rip-off? I believe not. I don't want to have another Taekwon V fiesta..
